Why teachers quit

Most teachers quit because of abuse, lack of appreciation, failed expectations and more. Most teachers quit because they can. If they can find better working conditions, more support and appreciation, more free time and money then they would.

What about dealing with "abuse" in teaching profession? You can never really understand what teachers go through until you experience it on your own. Maybe some teachers enjoy the stress and challenge of a teaching profession, for others it would seem more like abuse. Having to deal with negative people all the time, who demand more and more from you. Never being able completely please anyone. If pleasing people isn't important to you, then teaching would feel right for you.

Most of us want to be able to please others and feel appreciated, in teaching your expectations of appreciation would be much different from reality. So, yes, teachers quit because of failed expectations. Reality of teaching wasn't exactly as they expected it. You can think you are prepared, but when so many teachers describe feeling sick on a constant basis because of stress, it isn't something you can really get prepared to.

Teachers who quit

Teachers who quit do it because their life will be much better without teaching. People do what makes them feel good. People do what they want. If teacher decides to quit it simply means that, personally, he/she found more negative then positive in current situation. Why do people divorce, break relationships and quit jobs? Because they have more negative being in it than otherwise.

What about the money?

Money, actually, aren't that bad in teaching. There are a lot more unpleasant and part-time jobs in the world for much less pay. I don't beleive that money is a big enough reason to leave a profession. Failed expectation, yes, lack of appreciation, yes, but lack of money is the last of many reasons why teachers quit. If you raise salary, there still will be teachers who would want to leave teaching profession. When people saying money is the reason why teachers quit, they mean that they need more money to put up with abuse and other stress of their profession.

Also, teachers quit teaching just because they care about themselves. Everyone wants a teacher to fix all problems and please everyone. It's becoming harder and harder for teachers to fulfill all demands and expectations. What about students, parents and administrators, aren't they have to be accountable for something too? Teacher isn't God, but expected a lot from.

There are many reasons why teachers quit. It isn't the one single thing, but the combination of pleasant and unpleasant factors. If a teacher decides he/she will have a better life without teaching, then they quit.
